Sunday afternoon two days after Thanksgiving, the family has gone home and the house is quiet but for the soft din of a football game on TV in the next room. My old Chromebook sits on homemade table looking out at the Yooper sky. An icy cold wind stirs up moisture with heavy dark clouds threatening to unleash their contents on us. Just the sight of it sends a chill up my spine.

At this time of year, here in Michigans upper peninsula, we get a whopping 8 hours 50 minutes of day light, if that’s what you want to call it. It’s days like this that I wrestle with gardening catalogs and dream of warm summers breezes and song birds singing at the feeder. It should simply be illegal to send those colorful dreamy magazines at this time of year, before Christmas!

I get a pop up notice from an email, I have a message. Its a video, eh, why not take some time away from garden seeds and Black Friday shopping to watch it. So I do.

Caution, if you venture into this video, which you should take a look,this guy uses a lot of F bombs. The title is click bait and the information is good.

TRUMP FUCKS UP!

Interesting, but this isn’t the first video or article I have encountered that demonstrates what hell we may very well be living through in the next several months and maybe strung out over a few years.

So, sitting here hypnotized by tapping of ice pellets on the window, my mind began putting together all the puzzle pieces of videos and articles I’ve been through recently and came up with this question; what if you knew ahead of time that financial chaos was going to visit the U.S.? Anyone with any perception at all knows this economic rubber band has stretched as far a it can stretch. The breaking point has to be soon. What would you do today that would soften the blow of major financial pain and chaos at your house? This chaos could happen in the very near future, possibly last for years while America restructures itself. What are your plans? Indicative chatter coming from some of those folks in the “know” also suggests we could actually find ourselves in a kinetic battle on American soil!

I’ve always liked the study of paleontology, archaeology, and ancient civilizations. The subject is fascinating if you apply it to the survival of humans of today who have no fur or feathers of their own in which to survive the elements and would find themselves incarcerated for harvesting a beast for it’s pelt to stay warm. Todays humans are much like a hairless house cat that needs survival comforts from outside themselves. Humans are fooling themselves into believing flimsy Walmart fashions are going to keep them alive when it’s cold outside and those fashions typically have an abysmal rating for long term durability.

Change is coming. My guestimate is it will be here soon. Maybe within the next 6 months. The stretched rubber band is beginning to fray and it won’t hold out much longer. The above video says we should start seeing contention on or about December 3. Maybe. Will we see headlines on the news if something occurs. Maybe. In any case, time to pay attention. If all this does come into play, and my gut tells me that it will, then you and me are going to need to learn some new skills.

Many years ago I put together a small book, Four Grandmothers Wisdom, printed it and sold it during my time at the Farmers Market. I loved my time at the market and the book was quite a success, one of my biggest sellers. I’m sad to report now, however, that I no longer have any printed copies. Self publishing is very expensive. So, my “pay it forward” gift to you I will dedicated the next few posts to rewriting that book here, chapter by chapter. It’s only about 40 pages but is full of grandmother advice from a time before there was wide spread use of electricity. How did she keep her family warm, fed and healthy?

SHTF is coming, we need to hone in on our know how. Oh geez! An alert just popped up. 6 to 12 inches of heavy wet snow headed our way. The icy pellets tapping on my window was a warning, a heads up. Pay attention. Baton down the hatches folks, thar she blows.
